Review Digitech RP55

Sorry for the length and bad/awkward cutting. Believe it or not all the bad editing and awkward cuts were because of my efforts to cut this down from the original length of over 30 minutes. I tried to cut out all the unnecessary rambling and leave in the main points but it is still pretty long.

DigiTech FreqOut Natural Feedback Creator

Buy Now: https://goo.gl/oKDnWY

Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re screaming with the FreqOut, from DigiTech. The FreqOut is a natural feedback creator that lets you generate natural feedback without any noise complaints or hearing loss. While most feedback techniques require a ridiculous amount of distortion, the FreqOut works clean, at any volume and even without an amp in the room. The FreqOut reads the incoming harmonic content of the signal, and gives you the ability to focus the feedback on a certain frequency range, for all kinds of creative feedback applications far beyond that of a simple roaring amp. DigiTech gives the FreqOut’s switch the royal treatment, by making it true bypass as well as switchable between latching and momentary modes. The Momentary mode is especially useful for players that want only short bursts of concentrated feedback. A handy Dry Kill toggle switch eliminates the dry signal for 100 percent pure feedback, which lets you sculpt the raw feedback with pedals for tons of extra textures. Two concentric knobs for Gain and Onset let you tailor the feedback to your needs, letting you adjust the flavor as well as the time it takes the feedback to get cooking. And just like all other DigiTech pedals, the FreqOut is housed in a rugged metal chassis that will last a lifetime of gigs.

Hi Leon. I need some help. I noticed that when I am switching between effects on my 2120, it's not smooth. Say for example I am playing an effect with distortion then I click on the pedal to change to a clean tone. The previous effect does not shut off immediately so there is like quick pop from the previous effect. It's like its not being immediately cutoff. Any ideas on this?

Ive had the 2112 since new and the presets seem very similar, some identical. Might have to get it out of the cupboard and fire it up.

Helloo Leon 🤘🏼
I just got this 2120 preamp, but I didn't know how to editing gain value on preamp section. Because I try to edit it from 0 to 100 but the sound is the same. 🙄so how to tweak the gain preamp and distortion section.?? 🙏🏼

Hi….I have an identity and it doesn't sound like that, it sounds very opaque, could it be the valves? How did you connect it? To a sound card or an amplifier?

Hey Leon, Dweezil Zappa revealed in an interview, that he has always as a backup, a Digitech GSP1101, because sounds really close to the original preamps, and a big plus is the IR loader. Later i will purchase one of those for my homestudio 🙂

And it has 31bands st eq and a 6bands parametric eq also
& many many parameters to play with reverbs and full options to create new effects…!!!

I’ve been wanting one of these since I was 12. I believe it’s about time. 28 years later. I bet they are a lot cheaper. Or are now considered vintage, making them cost more.

Digitech 2120 & 2112 are nothing more than guts out of a johnson millenium 150 amp that has been made to fit a rack. Notice the johnson pedal board that is being used in this video which only works with a johnson amp and is not your typical midi pedal board. Digitech bought out johnson amplification then came out with the 2120 & 2112.
These unit have some different presets but they can be download
from unit to unit using a pc and midi cable. I have to laugh when people say johnson millenium 150 amp sucks but i love the 2120 & 2112 by digitech. It the same amp lol.

Very cool indepth review, it seems a lot easier to program than I've been led to believe. I kinda found myself being a Digitech collector so this one is definitely on my hitlist. I have pretty much all the generations of their Preamp/processor units from the GFX-1, GSP-21 to the Valve FX & Legend II which are the little brothers of the 2101 which preceded the 2120 etc. Thanks for this video.

Got a question and need an answer, I had a 90s digitech valve fx loved it no end this year 2021 it finally produced its last sound, yes I was heart broken like I said it was digitech valve fx s disk sound processor, my question is this how does this one compare, does it have the same sound quality and all else in comparison please be truthful cause I'm looking for pretty much the same your thoughts please share

dumb question for me how did you bypass all the pre-amp stuff, I want to run this thru my blackstar head effects loop and just use the effects only?

Reply

You should cut a 80etal track with that, lay in some effect sounds.

I have a 2112 that I played through a Rocktron Velocity 250 power amp into a 1960A cab. It lasted almost 20 years before the screen finally died. It was awesome for the time. I got a Helix because I got addicted to the 2112 morphing feature which you can reconstruct in a Helix with a reversed volume pedal on the clean channel. The EOB tones sucked but modulation effects were sweet. This unit has many grandchildren these days. Nostalgia rush here.

Reply
Jed Wunderli 03/09/2021 - 14:19

I had the black face edition – just the normal one. Loved it. I wonder how many of the artists who made tones for this now have tones that are somewhat noticeably different than the tones they programmed. Good stuff.

I have the " amp version " the Johnson Millennium JT 150 amp. Cool, is all midi signals so you cannot make changes on your computer like on Fractal stuff of today. The Johnson had really crap factory presets that you could fix and modify and that was what torpedoed it you have to put in a lot of time but is cool if you do.

Great review! In the 90's I used it for guitar but now I use it as a rack effects unit for synths, drums… and yes, guitars! I've created a few effects presets based on real gear: Phase 90, CE-2, Analog and Digital Chorus & Flangers, and even the H910. For the H910 preset I use short delays and a mixer to route the right channel's output back to the input with the original signal as feedback. It sounds tremendous!

Nice review! Your playing demos to audition sounds is great. Playing the right things that fit the patch. I still have the purple 2120 and Johnson J12 large foot controller. It’s a shame as I’ve never used it other than an initial ‘check it out’ period years ago, then I put it away as I had other things I used live that I was used to/familiar with. I have a Digitech GSP 1101 w/the large foot controller- same thing. BUT this review is gonna spark my interest in spending some time with it. If not the pre amp tones but for the effects as they sound good and have a lot of adjustment parameters to play with. Preamps/processors just like keyboards- the technology moves forward but just because something is say ‘old’ doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound good and is still capable. It has what I call ‘evergreen sounds’. Sounds that always have a use and can be used in ones tones/effects palette. I have a mint G-Force unit I have to mess with too! I bought an artist card/patches for it but I’ve never used it. A Rocktron Prophecy unit too. I have good intentions when buying stuff but never seem to spend time and sit down with them. I think I have too much crap! G.A.S. – Lol
