Your Very First Guitar Power Chord Lesson
In this guitar lesson, I’ll focus on power chords for beginners. Power chords are essential for learning guitar and playing one of your first songs. If you think power chords are only for rock music, think again.
I’ll show you how to make power chords, how to apply them to your practice routine, and how to play one of your first songs with power chords!
Power chords rely on 3 notes to create, well, power! It uses the fifth scale degree to create a powerful, grounded, and easy chord. The best part about power chords? You can use the same finger position all over the fretboard!
In this lesson on power chords, you’ll learn how to play “Louie Louie,” by the Kingsmen. Pretty soon, you’ll start hearing power chords in all types of music!

In this quick guitar lesson for beginners, I run through the basics of playing the guitar “power chord”. The power chord is perhaps the most versatile and useful chord shape that you can learn in order to play contemporary rock/pop/metal music. As a beginner, after you’ve completed this lesson and implement proper practice you will be able to play power chords easily and will learn a bit about its music roots.

Whats that guitar called
Another nice power-chord shape is when you add a 5th an octave higher than usual. For example A5 with this shape will look like: 5thfret on the E string, 7th fret on the D-string and 5th fret on the B-string.

I've been playing it for two days just messing around. I dropped tuned to D and I found some of these chords just messing around. This was very informative and confirmed what my ear was telling me already. Also picked up a couple tricks I appreciate it

Why are you playing Minor 6th intervals to substitute for diminished vii chords?
5th on the bottom 3 notes chord is my favorite, sounds so awesome in metal and is so underused
12 ways to not really learn your notes on your guitar , and avoid learning more interesting voicings, also use a 6 string

Take what you called your add9 power chord and move the pinky to the next string, muting the now unused one, and you have a nice power chord with an emphasis on the 5th. There is also the ultimate E power chord that I love very much : 0 7 9 9 0 0
Lol for a while I was thinking that the sound isnt similar …then later o realised it's an 8 string…😂😂
I still remember how revolutionary it was for me when I learned about the "fifth on bottom" power chord. I think I was learning some Gojira and Sylosis and noticed that they used that shape in a lot of their riffs. Gives the illusion that you are tuned lower than you actually are, especially if you play with a 5 string bassist reinforcing the root (which I believe Gojira actually does).
