Nathaniel echoes the Pink Floyd great on a pair of his signature, wellwired Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Stratocasters, one from 2016 and one from 2021. These will go fast, so better make your move before the time is gone and the song is over!

David Jon Gilmour was born on 6 March 1946 in Cambridge, England. His father, Douglas Gilmour, was a senior lecturer in zoology at the University of Cambridge, and his mother, Sylvia (née Wilson), trained as a teacher and later worked as a film editor for the BBC. At the time of Gilmour’s birth they lived in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, but in 1956, after several relocations, the family moved to nearby Grantchester Meadows.

Gilmour’s parents encouraged him to pursue his interest in music, and in 1954 he bought his first single, Bill Haley’s “Rock Around the Clock”. His enthusiasm was stirred the following year by Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel”, and later “Bye Bye Love” by the Everly Brothers piqued his interest in the guitar. He borrowed a guitar from a neighbour, but never gave it back. Soon afterward, Gilmour started teaching himself to play using a book and record set by Pete Seeger. At age 11, Gilmour began attending Perse School on Hills Road, Cambridge, which he did not enjoy. There he met future Pink Floyd guitarist Syd Barrett and bassist Roger Waters, who attended Cambridgeshire High School for Boys, also situated on Hills Road.

In 1962, Gilmour began studying ALevel modern languages at the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology. Despite not finishing the course, he eventually learnt to speak fluent French. Barrett was also a student at the college, and he spent his lunchtimes practising guitar with Gilmour. In late 1962, Gilmour joined the blues rock band Jokers Wild. The band recorded a onesided album and a single at Regent Sound Studio, in Denmark Street, west London, but only 50 copies of each were made.

Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt guitars are the creme de la creme of the Fender world. Each instrument is made by one of Fender’s expert level Master Builders and each one is unique and special in its own way.

Guitar 1:

PreOwned 2007 Fender Custom Shop Todd Krause Masterbuilt Troy Lee Designs Stratocaster

Designed by Troy Lee and Masterbuilt by Todd Krause, this one of a kind Custom Shop Stratocaster is something to behold. The gargoyle paint scheme is the only one known to exist and was part of a private collection. It was purchased new in California in 2007 and was left in it’s case, never played.

Troy Lee is a prolific artist on the West Coast that is best known for his work in the action and motorsports industries. He has done several guitars for Fender Custom Shop with varied designs.

This Strat is in like new condition and has never been played. Comes with original case, strap, certificate of authenticity and other goodies.

Guitar 2:

PreOwned 2010 Fender Custom Shop John Cruz Masterbuilt Stratocaster

As Masterbuilt guitars go, John Cruz made some of the more sought after Custom Shop guitars during his tenure at Fender. Cruz joined Fender in 1087 and became a Master Builder in 2003. Since then he became known for his reproductions of the classic SRV Strat, Jeff Beck Esquire and Gary Moore’s 1961 Fiesta Red Strat.

This preowned 2010 John Cruz Stratocaster has a gorgeous custom purple/gray finish. There are a few notable cracks in the finish on the top of the guitar as well as dents and dings here and there throughout. The paint has chips at the base of the neck as well as underneath the bridge. The back of the guitar has picked up an imprint if the velvet lining of the case. We’ve completely disassembled this guitar and the body is perfectly sound structurally as far as we can tell and the cracks appear to only be through the paint. Comes with the original hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.

  1. So being left-janded makes you a 'moaner' – hmmmmmm…

Anyway, I would be interested in the blue NOS tele but it ain't on your website so probably sold already?

  2. I used to dislike Relic'd guitars and didn't see the appeal at all. But, then I bought one and I ended up being blown away by how much I like it. Since then I LOVE Relic'd .. actually the heavier relic'd the better.

  3. Sorry, but a flame rip sawn neck will never be as stable, as a birdsey, or 1/4 sawn neck. You can roast all that flame maple, but it will never be stable. I do not believe it should have an upcharge for a neck that may twist.

  4. Mick Taylor would be upset that all the fingerboard radii are 9.5" not 7.5". I haven't ever played a 7.5". I imagine, if you do a good setup, they play just fine. But isn't that what the internet is for: talking about something about which one knows nothing?

  5. I long to come through those saloon doors and look up to those high walkways fully expecting to see dancing girls whoopin' ana – hollerin'….. Miss your wonderful shop! Bought two perfect guitars from you guys ( Jeff actually!…)…. True historic gold top and a southerner j-45….most perfect 6 stringers I've had in 51 years!!

  6. Hair looking good bro 😎 Curious as to why Fender rarely does finish checking on the necks I had a 58 that had more checking on the neck than the body My CS Troposphere strat has it on the body but none on neck Love those DWs…all of them really

  7. So, we have over 30 Fender Custom Shop guitars (mostly strats). If the average cost for a Custom Shop guitar is approx. £3,800 then x 30 (31,32?), this comes to (ballpark figure) £120,000 of guitar heaven. I still wouldn't get rid of my various strats (2015 Mexican, 1987 Korean, 2 Affinities 1999 and 2004, and a crabby 2007 cheapo that's not very good).

  8. Too bad that sunburst black humbucker is a south paw . Then it’s also too bad I don’t have the money for it anyway . I’m sure there’s a lefty out there looking for that kinda sunburst tortoise pickguard HSS relic vibe. It looks like it oozes mojo .The last one too . I’m digging the reverse skunk stripe too . I’m sure those will make some lefty players very happy , or a right handed Hendrix style .

  9. Just don’t get the appeal of the reliced guitars. If I pay a premium price for a nice guitar I want it in pristine condition and I’ll age it myself by playing it. Maybe I should go into business relicing guitars Rub the crap out of them then bang them around awhile a voila instant relic and I get paid !

  10. I recently (3 months), bought a NOS 57’ Strat in fiesta red from you guys and it’s the best Strat l’ve ever played and l bought it blind. Also the build quality rivals any boutique brands l’ve ever tried. I must have been either very lucky or the quality of custom shop Stratocaster’s are improving because I have played a good amount of teambuilt and owned a masterbuilt Dale Wilson and the red 57’ is absolutely better in every department.

  11. This was a surprisngly relaxing and satisfying video to watch. My faves were the Aged white blonde 51 HS Tele, the 2-tone Tropo hardtail Strat, and the Aged teal green 60 Tele.
*Adopts a nasally nerd voice: 'If only that last guitar was right-hand-drive though…' ;-P

  12. much as I didn't really appreciate the piss take of us lefties (I bet you hear a lot more whining from righties about relics!), I do appreciate the fact that you actually stock some lefties so that's a big win (which is why I've bought a couple from you :-D) Keep up supporting us lefties please 🙂
